The rim is the weak point of every handpan. An impact there changes the tension in the metal and thus the tuning. This hand-braided edge protector wraps around the entire rim and absorbs impacts before they reach the instrument.

Why the rim needs special protection

The two half-shells of a handpan are joined at the rim. This is precisely where every impact directly affects the tension of the tone fields. A scratch on the surface is annoying, but a blow to the rim can necessitate retuning.
